Nepalese people movement 2006 and role of Mass Media
September 12, 2006 at 5:54 am | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 CommentBack ground ofNepal media history and politics Nepal is an economically deprived country, which lies in between two emerging nation India and China.Nepal took a shape of nation when king Prihivi Narayan Shah of Nepal conquered 42 small states of Nepal in to single country called Kingdom of Nepal.During those time king Prithivi Narayan Shah used to appoint ‘ Katuwal’ to disseminate messages .Katuwal post ,generally carried by man, whose duty is to spread important message with the help of drums staying at heights. He moves from place to place ,gather masses by beating drum and share messages and news of states. During those days katuwal used to be authentic source of news about festival announcement. Army recruitments , tax systems. This system can be traced as earlier form of mass media used in Nepal to disseminate news inNepal history Same trends continuous later in Nepal until the then Rana Primie minister Janga bahadur brought Gidde press (eagle press) from
United Kingdom. Bringing gidde press from UK can be taken as milestone in development of media inNepal. This press was used to published bills and laws ofNepal during 1850’s this media was used to disseminate news of royal families and Rana. They did not carry views and ideas of common people.Gorkhapatra is the oldest newspaper printed in
Nepal which started in 1870s.gorkhapatra is own by government so they carries governments news and favor government rather than publishing new of citizen. After establishment of democracy in 1950, influence of media rises inNepal. This was democratic era. Many newspaper and magazines started publishing voices of people. Again, King Mahendra seized democracy and started party less Panchayat system it was beginning of Dark Age again. This age continued until 1990.After people movement of 1990 King Birendra, son of former King Mahendra re established democracy and started living as constituent king. In order to encourage people voices and safeguard democracy new constitution made on 1990 gave right of information .right to publication and free press laws so that media could act as fourth part ofNepal government. Soon after restoration of democracy many newspaper, magazines, radio stations and TV stations started to disseminate news views and entertainment. PresentlyNepal has about 10 daily broadsheets .100 of weekly, 8 satellite TV 30 and FM stations After restoration of democracy in 1990, Nepal was heading towards develop but due to political instability between leaders, emergence of Maoist with slogan of republicanNepal checked the flow of development. In 2004, the then Prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba dissolved parliament. However, due to Maoist terror he could not made an environment for election. later on again ,King Gyanendra took the supreme power of country in his hand and started ruling according to his own will .he appointed minister who were not members of parliaments. His acts were totally against constitution of
Nepal 1990.As it was unconstitutional move by king, whole media attacked him with editorial views and news. Along with that leader of seven party alliances started to demand for restoration of parliament and step back of king from active politics. However, king Gynandries did not heard that, he mobilized army to control Maoists. He brought ordinance to control press, which had provision to censorship, punishment to media person and journalist for publishing news and editorial against king and his family. He banned airing of news from fm stations claiming that fm is just for entertainment propose rather than information. He organized local level to elect his supporters as seven party alliances denied election and its results too. As king move was against constitution, major donor countries like USA,Denmark,
Norway stop giving loans and grants for development. Along with that, violation of human rises sky rocketed . Due to all these steps of king , Nepal turned in to 20 th failed country of world, according to survey done by US Foreign Policy magazine and the US-based Fund for Peace think-tank.During last 2 years, due to influence of mass media agenda setting popularity of king gone down. People started demonstration for absolute democracy constituent assembly as Nepalese are fading up of king rules. Finally, the frustration of Nepalese leads to 20 days long people movement, which took place from April 2nd to April 26 th of 2006. After 24 days long strikes and curfew king restored parliament and called seven party alliance to form government. King agreed to draft new constitution after holding election for constituent assembly. He agreed with SPA demand to bring Maoist on mainstream politics so that peace could be restore in Nepal .during those 24 days strikes, and curfew mass media plays vital role to disseminate news ,views and ideas of strikes along with that it persuade people for need of democracy. It helps to bring masses on street against autocratic king. Roles of various media in 24 days long people movement ofNepal is described below Newspaper Newspaper is the major source of information in Nepal .As 40percent of people are only illiterates inNepal, only few around 500 thousand (according to circulation) read it daily. In spite of that it have great impact on educated people as they are stake holder in mass movement too as they are aware of liberty ,importance of democracy, freedom . Kantipur national daily plays a vital role in disseminating news of people movement as its pro-king newspaper. It continuously gives news against kings act and make public aware about king autocratic nature. Photos and news of mass movement on katipo made people t come out of home and participate in movement. As Kantipur has largest network of journalist in Nepal, it covered news from different part ofNepal which helps to create solidarity for democracy. When Kantipur was publishing news about people move .Gorkhapatra. Government owned newspaper was only publishing news on small development issues. Radio radioo has largest number of audiences than any other media in Nepal .Radio is taken as friend of poor as they are cheaper and affordable too. Radio covers 80 percent population of
Nepal .mainly FM stations plays great role during people movement 2006 as they inform about updates of rallies and curfews. Protests going on various parts of cities. These updates motivated people to join hands for people rallies. Along with that some FM stations like Nepal FM played patriotic and inspiring song of Ramesh like “gau gau bata utho (awake from every place) which inspires citizen to ask for their rights. FM stations motivate to break curfew too. Television Kantipur TV,Nepal 1 continuously gave news about movement. Kantipur TV used to broadcast live reporting from streets ofKatmandu showing lathi charge and rubber bullet firing done by army and police cadres towards demonstrators .Kantipur news, which is taken as authentic ,broadcasted interview of civil leaded and intellectual who speaks on necessity of democracy Website Though only few people use internet inNepal .Internet turned in to important news source for people who were leaving abroad. Website like ekantipur.com. nepalnews.com.parewa.com. himalkhabar.com updated news on their portal .which spread through out the world in a second. During 20 days, most of that website was visited more than 500thousand times a day. along with news portals blog site of Nepal such as blog.com.np,bloggers Nepal .com.mysansar .com played a crucial role to spread views of republicanNepal ,role of king .Blog was famous as these sites are sites where many intellectual drop their ideas and thoughts. Role of foreign media covering news of people movement of 2006 Previously foreign media always used to portray Nepal as land of
Buddha or a land of innocent and smily people. During Hippie period, they stereotyped Nepal asland ofHippies as at that time it was safe and peace land for Hippie’s t have drugsNews of Nepal was published so rarely in foreign media, but this time it was not so .CNN.BBS fox news covered Nepal events with priority .along with that LA time .New York post published a news report onNepal issues. They openly criticized step of king and supported people and call for end of terror. Most of the time foreign media used to portrays king as incarnation of god(in Hindu religion king is taken as god) but this time foreign media change their perspectives and wrote and broadcasted what t really a people of Nepal think about him .
Sexual minorities in Nepal
April 28, 2006 at 5:44 am | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 CommentNepal is economically deprived small land locked country which is located between India and
China. It’s small Himalayan country with lots of small villages and few towns.
Nepal has population of about 24.70 million. 80 percent of total population is Hindu. Mostly they are conservative in thoughts and they pursue strong determination towards their traditional culture, religion, belief and sex life. Sex is considered taboo in Nepalese society along with it it’s a private affairs between husband and wife. None like to speak about sex publicly. Extra marital sex. Sex with prostitute, premarital affairs are considered offensive and act against social norms and values.
Most of the population of
Nepal are Hindu. They considered homosexuality as offensive act against social practices and it’s totally unacceptable in society too.
But with influence of foreign world and popular media culture
Nepal is being free and frank in issues of sex affairs. But it’s mainly in urban area where there is influence of media, foreign culture and education too. At a time issues of homosexuality is also rising as number of homosexual is in increasing order too. Homosexuality is burning issues in Nepalese society these days. Along with that its prominent issues for Sociologist to discuss and research in subject of homosexuality in closed society of Nepalese.
Nepal and homosexuals In culturally rigid society of Nepal, homosexuality is still illegal , though Constitution of Nepal 1990 provides right of equality to every citizen without discriminating in terms of sex ,gender, race ,class religion .According to organization named,Blue Diamond society, which works in favor of homosexual and sexual minorities like gays and lesbians, there are about 2000 sexual minorities who are in touch with BDS. There are about 150 sexual minorities who are member of BDS. But actual number of sexual minorities is still unknown. Reason behind that is they don’t want to come in front of society and introduce themselves as homosexual or someone with different sexual attitudes. homosexuals doesn’t want to come to social periphery as they are afraid of inequality and discrimination they have to face for being sexual minorities . Sexual minorities have to face uphill struggle for tolerance, recognition and rights. Conservative Nepalese society only accepts two gender-male or female, and one type of sexuality – heterosexuality .these homosexuals don’t fit in into categories and act outside‘s
Nepal ‘s social norms. So they are treated discriminately in Nepalese society.Activities of homosexuals, media coverage and its effects on society
Activities of homosexual and sexual minorities are
Kathmandu, Capital of Nepal, centered. Its is centered in Katmandu because there is organization called Blue Diamond Society which binds gays and lesbians of
Nepal .
Another reason behind that is that
Katmandu being a capital is influenced from western culture and its somehow free place for sexual minorities to express themselves.
News of gays and lesbians in
Nepal came out in media on 1998 when two women got married. They were first arrested but later on released as there was no law again same sex marriage.
News and events of sexual minorities increase after sexual minorities formed an organization called Blue Diamond Society.
In August 2004, 39 members of BDS were arrested on public nuisance charges and beaten up whilst in custody. This news spread like fire in local national dailies and magazine alone with international media. This incident helps them to come in to light to ask for their right and privileges.
Blue Diamond society itself organize sexual minorities fashion show, rally, demonstrations gay jatra (festival). Most of these events are covered by local newspaper; magazine and TV.most of them give them space in entertainment section rather than top stories day.
Kantipur television, local TV channel in
Nepal had made a documentary based on life, activities, behavior and attitudes of gays and lesbians on 2004. It helps them to spread their voice to common people.
Blue diamond society itself published weekly magazine called “blue diamond’ in support of gays and lesbians movement, it covers articles of different news about sexual minorities of whole world
During initial days these groups of homosexual were interpreted as bad spot of society as media was also biased at that time . But with the change in time, with transition of values and positive media portrayals they are not treated badly. These days’ media inform about their activities rather than interpreting dark side of their stories. Nepalese society is also slowly adopting these changing phenomenon as media is continuosly setting agenda on public mind, to treat sexual minorities as part of society rather than crowd of people who are physically and mentally sick and sex addicted.
reaction again and again
April 5, 2006 at 1:56 am | Posted in i think, Uncategorized | Leave a commentWe are now in second half of the spring semester .After analyzing and interpreting various aspects of Racial, Cultural discriminatory practices, now we are analyzing and discussing on issues of Homosexuality and its impacts. After spring break, we discussed on topic like Gender Stereotype, Sexual Prejudice, Models of Manhood, and Masculinity as homophobia. In order to interpret and know their approaches on our society we go through “Off the Straight and Narrow” and another movie called “Boys don’t cry” On March 13 th, we talked about Gender Stereotype and Sexual Prejudice. Gender is socially defined expectations for masculine and feminine behavior. Gender streotypes is the prejudice or self-evaluation of gender on the basic of role played by women or men in the society. Basically here in America, men are stereotypes as aggressive ,macho ,muscular ,strong, intellectual , competent and decisive whereas women are stereotype as passive, caretaker, sex object ,weak ,emotional ,need input ,indecisive . I was quite surprised to see same thing repeating about gender stereotype in US, which used to be same in third world country like mine. I had not imagined that
USA have same feeling and attitudes towards women as they are in minds of illerate poor Nepalese back in my country. Looking from eyes of mine, I think women are competent, independent and decisive in
USA than in my country. Sexual Prejudice refers to all negative attitudes based on sexual orientation of human, whether they are homosexual, bisexual or heterosexual. However, in these cases prejudice is almost towards homosexual behavior and groups of people who are gays, lesbians and bisexual as they are one who represent minorities. They are discriminated because they are less in number and societies always want to stop voices of minorities. If the cases are totally against laws and practices of society, they are more eager to stop it by hook or crook. I think sexual prejudice is taken as negative as it is some thing, which is not in our society and culture from long time. It is considered unnatural too. As this practice is almost against the rule of nature of “opposite attracts”. Sexual Prejudice carries the voices of heterosexual majority so they want to suppress voices of minorities. For those reason attitudes of heterosexual towards homosexual is always negative, violent and hostile. I think in our society dominant model of masculinity is heterosexual masculinity or manhood .but as gay a do not want to continue the typical model of manhood they suffers from oppression and discrimination of being unnatural. Masculinity is defined by physical strength, bravado, exclusive heterosexuality suppression of vulnerable emotions such as remote uncertainty. Homophobia is a person who have negative attitude towards gay, lesbians and bisexual. Kimmal had taken “manhood” as central organizing principle of our cultural definition of manhood .Culturally man are taken as brave, decisive muscular confident, I personally feel that Kimmel is true in his statement as everyman want to prove him as being “man”. In order to prove himself he can do anything and can goes to any level to fulfill that. He even can take the help of violence to complete it. He do that because he fears from being insulted as man without manhood . In addition, the word “man without manhood” evokes him to do anything. Heterosexual masculinity is the cultural pressure on males to be masculine in traits as they are cultural beliefs, which is in practice from long time ago. In order to know the important of manhood hood we can just cite example of Napoleon (King), George Washington (Father of America), Alexander (warrior) or film stars like Tom Cruise or Arnold, they are popular of their masculinity. They are popular because of their big muscles, power, violent character, decisive nature. It shows important of manhood in our society. I think it shows how much manhood matters in society and our surrounding. I observe that standard of masculinity vary from time to time, culture to culture, and place to place but always masculinity is defined as different and superior from feminity. “Boys do not cry, is the film made on 1999, which was based on true story of Brandon Teena who embodies the ongoing dilemma of masculine identity. Whole film is set on small town in
Nebraska and film revolves around a girl who wants to be boy. Film is able to portrays the dynamic nature of a Brandon Teena who wanted to be boy from girl. Film focused on complicated issues of transgenderism and its negative effects on society. “ Off the Straight and Narrow “is the documentary, which talked about the images of gays and lesbians in television from early 1960s until now. It is documentary to cast a critical cast over the growth of gay and lesbians and their images on TV. I think documentary is able to show changing attitudes of society towards homosexuals. Along with that, it shows changing coverage of homosexual issues in TV and other forms of mass media.
MY AIM IS MY DESTINATION
March 31, 2006 at 6:27 am | Posted in feelings | Leave a comment Dreams are seen to be fulfilled .Everyone dreams but only few achieve those or turn it into truth. It is not easy to make a dream come true, as it needs lots of hard work and devotion. If the case is of aim or life goals, it is more complex and complicated. Goals and dreams of life generally take several years to fulfill. It needs hard labor, devotion planning concentration to be fulfilled.Talking about myself, I always dreamt of being in Media field. I wanted to be in field of Broadcast Journalism so that I could be voice for voiceless and play the role of responsible citizen of world by informing and entertaining people. My goal in life is to open a News Channel in
Nepal and make it the best News Channel in my country. They are my long terms goals, which will take about 20 years to be fulfilled. Before establishing News Channel in Nepal I want to work for Print media ,Radio stations and TV channel for several years so that I could understand each and every prospective of media field . I think working for several years on various media field will be beneficial for me as will increase my confidence level . It will give me immense knowledge to operate and run full-fledged News Channel. These are some of my short-term goals to achieve my overall dream. In order to be in field of television, I am doing my undergraduate with major Radio /Television. Undergraduate in Radio/TV is all about studies of Mass Communication, writing reports for radio, TV and newspaper. ; making programs and documentaries for television. I think my aim and course I am taking matches with each other. My undergraduate degree will make me able to stand in field of media. It will help me to lead myself towards my destination and aim. That’s why I think my major is best for me too pursue my career in field of media .
People who want to be in field of media should have qualities of making public relation. For then communication skills and way of presenting them selves is vital. One who dreamt of being Newscaster or Program presenters must present themselves in lucrative way. As my communication and presentation skills is worst I think I should take Speech Communication as my minor. I want to take Speech Communication as my minor so that I could improve my communication skills which is taken as most important assets for TV presenter . Along with speech as my minor, I want to take classes of Marketing and Business Studies, as they seem fabulous for my career.
As my aim in life is to establish News Channel, I think it is good to know more about marketing and business. It will incorporate with a business strategy, advertisement, sales and promotion of my News Channel.
In spite of all these wills and desires, sometimes I get depressed of being in this media field. Murdering of TV person in countries like Iraq and Afghanistan , trouble given by government to journalist in Nepal ,low salaries , risky work make me feel like quitting my aims and my major Radio/TV.
Some times, I feel like taking Aviation as my major or chose Piloting as my profession. I was always attracted towards doing Bachelor in Aviation Engineering as I was always attracted towards that major after Radio/TV. Another truth is that I always used to dream of flying aero plane when I was kid .So I still feel like being pilot as they are paid more than TV journalist and prestigious by profession too.
In spite of all these queries and question regarding my career I don’t like to chance my plan as I am stick up with that . I have already inclined myself to be TV personnel in my life, s o finally and ultimately I want to be in media field . I want to be responsible TV journalist who cares Human rights, Press Freedom , dignity of humanity and hate crime violence , terrorism and racial discrimination .
reaction is necessary
March 31, 2006 at 5:43 am | Posted in i think | 2 CommentsIn the course race gender and mass media we are going through more specific topics of gender biasness and racism. These days we are not only interpreting how racism is hampering our society and culture but also looking at how American government is trying to minimize its effects . From February 13 onwards till February 22 we go through several topics of race, gender and its relation with media. We interpret, analyze and evaluate its pros and cons. During this period we watched video called “Legislating morality” and we go through articles like Institutional /Cultural/Linguistic racism. Along with that we discussed about affirmative action. On 20 th February, we discussed about institutional /cultural / linguistic racism. Every institution in
United States is fully controlled by whites. From central government to local government; from big hospital to clinics; from universities to school whites are leading whole institution and maintaining racism. This is institutional racism.Yes, I agree with this phenomenon of institutional racism, as its truth, and it’s obvious to be so. In
America white people have got privilege of first class citizen. They are encouraged to get good education. They are rich and are elite. So they possess chances to do better in life and that’s why they are ruling every institution. They are trained to rule others as they have dark history of promoting slavery. On the contrary, other minorities like black have dark history of being slaves. They are just free to think about themselves from last 100 years only. They have pains and sorrows of being slaves till now. They are far from opportunities to do better in life due to lack of education and proper environment. So it obvious to have institutional racism ;as privilege to develop career; motivation and skills between whites and other minorities lag far behind from each other . They are unequal and unbalance too.Institutional racism has brought cultural racism too. Cultural racism is the imposition of racial political culture upon the lives of other culture willingly or not willingly. As culture is a way of life of people, cultural racism forces one to follow the culture of powerful group or majority ,so that he/she can assimilate in their culture. I agree with this concept of cultural racism as I feel myself victim of it. After coming here in USA from small mountainous Hindu kingdom Nepal, I feel myself alien as I am disconnected from my culture , on the other hand I have not been able to adopt to new American culture. I am in phase of assimilation to new culture. These days its hard for me too calculate dates and months of
Nepal which are in Bikram Sambat(BS) rather than in AD.I am being used to with AD. Along with that I don’t know when festival like ‘Holy’(festival of color ) falls but I remember when is valentine day and Christmas. In
Nepal, I never used to call elders by name as it is regarded as disrespectful. But here I am getting used to calling elders with name, as it way of life here. So I feel my self victim of cultural racism and I found myself in phase of transition to new culture.Cultural racism has favored linguistic racism to. As language is part of culture, we are facing linguistic racism too. We can just take example of English, which shows how linguistic racism occurred. When
Britain emerged as the super power of the world by making world its colonies, its power affected the whole world. As English was their language, its force other to speak in English. Consequently culture of speaking English developed world wide and finally every people were attracted towards this language and now every where in the world English is teaches as compulsory language in schools , colleges and universities . This shows how the influences of power change whole society, community or world. Affirmative action is the set of public policies and initiatives designed to help eliminate past and present decimation bases on race, color, religion, sex one national origin. Main motive towards introducing affirmative action was to help African American become full citizen of the
United States. I think plan to implement affirmative action was right initiative to empower black people or minorities to bring them in main stream development by giving them priorities. Along with that I feel that this concept have been misused too. I personally feel that it is good to give priority to the equally qualitative people of other color rather than majority, but again if the same trends continues of just giving priority to color rather than qualification . I think it will bring another conflict or revolution. In name of giving priority to minorities, one cant hurt majority, as some time equally qualified majority representative may be kick out from opportunity because of color. In democratic system I think every individual right, qualification views should be equally treated rather than giving priority to majority or minorities. Legislating morality: affirmative action of burden of history is documentary which revolves around views of people of various post and occupation. It deals with positive and negative aspects of affirmative action.
.GARY OZANICH IN MY PROSPECTIVE
March 31, 2006 at 5:26 am | Posted in feelings | Leave a comment .GARY OZANICH IN MY PROSPECTIVEWith aim to be in field of radio /TV, I landed toNorthern
Kentucky
University as my educational destination . As my major is RTV, I took several classes of media studies of 100 level. Contemporary mass media was one of them. I found the class of contemporary mass media more exciting as I like the way my professor teaches it . His lectures , his way to interpret things and using practical approaches to get into subject lured me . I decided to take interview of him. His name is Dr Gary Ozanich. Professor Gary attendedMichigan
University. He did his under graduate in zoology from there .Later on he did his graduate in telecommunication leaving his previous major zoology. He was very confused about taking major in bachelor as he had seven majors .But as that was new era of development in new technology and broadcasting he was attracted towards ‘telecommunications ’rather than studying animals. Professor became nostalgic when he remembered his time as new freshman in
Michigan. According to him early 70’ was critical and crazy .It was time of America –
Vietnam is war. So there were lots o protest and rallies by student in support and against of war. Students were politically active. Professor Gary had to sell his car for his graduate studies when he joined graduate in telecommunication .But days never remain same. He got success in his exams of life . He did PhD from
Wisconsin university. He did research on “mass communication and minor economy” . After being Ph.D holder,he started his career as lecturer in
Michigan
University, same university from where he graduated .But he was not stable there as he got bored of teaching. His interest was in new technology of media which was in media market rather then classes and labs of university .He left the job and went to city of dreams ”Network”. He started his working for company name IDC which works in field of hi-tech communication system. Later on with ups and down in life, he moved to big prestigious company called Boozallen where he worked as media business analyst. He analyzed the market for TV, radio and other mass mediums. His team analyzed the importance of weather channel. They came to a conclusion that it doesn’t have market value. But in present, he felt that their decision was wrong and he regret on that research. After working for several companies, again Dr Gary Ozanich returned back to profession of teaching. He joined NKU. He joined NKU because his wife Leslie Oleksowicgze, who is doctor by profession got job in medical college in
Cincinnati. So he also came with her as he doesn’t want to be apart from her beloved mermaid. So he moved to
Cincinnati and joined NKU last semester only. As he is in NKU from last semester only he found educational environment friendly here. He can’t forget holiday party of NKU as happiest moments shared with friendly and cordially NKU staffs, professors and well wishers. He found profession of teaching interesting and good as he feels himself young ,active and good when he is in between youth of university .He takes researches in university, community services and being in class as good aspects of teaching where as he hate dealing with bureaucrats. He suggests student to visit professor, stake on studies and enjoy college time to get success .In return he want 3ATT for being good student. That is attention in class, attendance and attribution for being good student. He wants to have cordial and mutual two way relationship between students and professors. He suggested youth to approach everything with enthusiasm, try new ideas and keep moving for success in life as professor had also followed same success tips in his youth.Fun loving professor Dr Gary loves to watch sports on TV, and walking with his two dogs. He loves to read books. He find book called ’Protust’ by French writer his best as it brings changes in his life. For him life is what it is and he believes in motto “Do the next right thing” and take it as inspirational sentence of everyday. Talking to him was real fun. I enjoyed it. Along with it I learned a lesson from struggles of professor. I promised myself to use success tips used by professor on his youth. I planned my self to ask for suggestions and advices from him if I get any trouble in my career or in my education too. . He has promised me to help me too.
My Theatre Experience
March 31, 2006 at 2:32 am | Posted in feelings | 1 CommentMy Theatre Experience
I was not in mood to go to see ‘Chorus Line’ at NKU Corbett Theatre. I was depressed and frustrated seeing my academic progress in NKU. I was graded B C and even D in various paper and reaction essays assigned by my professors in my courses. I was feeling bad. In spite of hard labor and concentration on studies, I was getting low grades. My heart was gloom, heavy and discouraged at that moment.Santosh and Nima shouted at me, “Common Roshan, It is time to theatre.” Again, I was not in mood to go. They persuaded me to visit theatre as I had ticket for it too .They reminded me that I need to write paper on that too. Forcefully with heavy heart, I dressed up and came out of the apartment. Sun was dim. Chilled wind was blowing. It was dull evening as my mind and heart. Through out the way I advised myself,” Why I am getting so depressed about my studies. Why I am afraid of hard labor, pains and struggle of life .Oh my god! just bring me out of these problems,” I murmured silently.I entered Corbett Theatre. It was eight p.m when we were there. Theatre was packed. I was just imaging how would be ‘Chorus Line”. I thought it would be romantic drama with lots of humors and laughter in it. I taught again,” what a contradiction, I am serious, gloom and senti and I will be watching humorous drama .O h its real contradiction of life! “Drama began on scheduled time. Musicians played music. They played a tap, a classical and melo dramatic rhythm. Light man managed light through out the stage. Actors started performing their assigned roles. Whole theatre was silent and glued to big stage. I got lost in difficulties of their performances. I discovered myself in actors and actress of’ Chorus Line”. They were struggling for their success in Broadway Show; here I was struggling for my career and good grades.”Oh we shared same story” my minds spoke out. I shared same experiences like that of Don, Grad, Bobby and others as they had wonderful teen age, school time , aim and feeling to do something in life as I have . Zach , Choreo grapher resemble my professors who influenced me to do best and advised me to work hard to achieve excellent results, as he did to Cassie. Cassies story , Cassies struggles at California, her hard work, her motivation to do best and finally her triumph on competition Broadway filled determination in me to work hard. I started thinking” It is not only me who suffered from failures, but everybody passes from it. One who is determined to pass through it count failure as steps to success and be the successful in life” I was turning philosophical .Physically at that time I was in Corbett Theatre but virtually I was in heart of people who were struggling in drama “Chorus Line. I was not there at that moment. Suddenly Santosh shaked my shoulder, and ask, “How was drama”. I spoke with excitement” Mind blowing “I speak with myself once again “ Why not , its changes me ,my attitudes and filled energy in me to work hard for success. Its really motivational and inspirational “
reaction is going on
March 31, 2006 at 2:27 am | Posted in i think | 12 CommentsWith aim to learn how to analyze, interpret and evaluate the images and On Message regarding the images and messages regarding women and people from medium of mass communication, started our class on 9 th of January. Our course RTV 105-003 Race ,Gender and mass media will examine the historical development of image of women and study of other ethnic group which are after referred as co called ‘ minorities “. Along with it, it helps to know about political and economic influences racism too. From 9 th January till 23rd January we go through several lectures and viewing videoProgram along with reading assignment from black board too. We watched 3 documentaries . They were A] Angry EyesB] Question of race C] The color of race and goes through articles like ‘white privileges” and “how Jews became white folks “and 1st and 2nd chapters of Racism, sexismand the media , which discussed on “diversity in the land of majority rule “ and “do the media matters “ respectively.
Documentary’ The question of race ‘was shown on 18 th January 2006. It is all about what people think about race .The questions of race ‘vividly presents the ideas of race through mindset up of several persons interviewed. It shows that people have varieties of ideas about race, its origins, its function and important. People in documentary take race as history, a kind of ugly racism as a fun, as a poetry and as a difference. I agree with must of ideas or views share by those person , as it carries the experiences of happiness or a bad experiences they faced due to their race of origin. I too feel that race is racism or bad history. Size of ones eyes or shape structure should not be the qualification to judge individual or group. Races have always stood as dark part of human civilization. System of making slave to black African by white people on past are all the consequences of the black skin color African posses. This shows that color or racism have created bad history. Race is the barrier for establishing mutual cordial relationship between the people. In my opinion race is in grained too. It is bitter truth. Race matters when people fought for social and political matters. Races have become an agenda to fight between people of different origins. Races based on politics now which don’t allow people to think beyond the narrow wall of racism instead of broader space of humanity and brotherhood. Finally in conclusion, race is all about thinking which prevails in human minds as feeling of race which passes as culture transmission. Race is socially reality.
